Appleberry Walk-off Homer Wins It

Payton Appleberry was strong behind the plate, but it was her bat that propelled Republic to a 7-4 win over Carthage.
The Lady Tigers lost a 4-1 lead to Carthage, but Payton Appleberry made sure it didn’t matter. Appleberry slugged a 3-run homer in the bottom of the 7th inning to give Republic a 7-4 conference win.

Republic jumped ahead 1-0 in the first inning when Appleberry singled and scored.

They added three more in the 4th inning. Brooke Dutton started the inning with a walk. She stole second and scored on a single by Amanda Snider. After Taylor Gold singled, Danielle Shelton hit a 2-run double.

After Carthage fought back to tie the game 4-4, the Lady Tigers came through again. Shelton reached on a single and Bre Hemphill walked, setting up Appleberry’s 3-run, walk-off homer.
