Four Tigers Score in Shutout of Marshfield

SoccerPatience paid off for Republic’s soccer team in a 4-0 win over Marshfield at home Thursday.

“We’re really trying to focus on patience and possession,” says coach Mike Hines. “We did some drops inside our offensive third to hold in players. That really stretches their defense out and helps us be more effective.”

The Tigers scored first when Mitchell Heinzler took a pass from Hugo Donjuan and put the ball into the net with 15:39 left in the first half. About 12 minutes later, Donjuan assisted again, this time feeding Riley Norris for a score with 2:20 remaining in the half.

Soccer  1The score stayed that way until Nathan Pool scored an unassisted goal with 7:12 left in the game to make it 3-0 Tigers.

Donjuan picked up his third assist of the night on the game’s final goal, feeding Seth Carter with less than two minutes remaining.

The comfortable margin of victory paid another dividend for the Tigers.

“One thing we did that’s a first for us is, everybody played,” says Hines.

The JV team also beat Marshfield, 1-0.
