Jeff City Drops Republic in Pitcher’s Duel

The Republic Lady Tigers out-hit Jefferson City 8-7 Tuesday, but could never get the hit they needed down the stretch, falling 2-1 at home.

The Lady Tigers wasted a strong pitching performance by Stephanie Eckhoff. She allowed two runs on seven hits, striking out one. She didn’t walk a batter.

The Lady Jays broke on top in the 2nd inning with a single run, but Republic answered with its only run of the game when Maddy Coates doubled home Danielle Shelton to tie the score 1-1.

Jefferson City scored the go-ahead run by putting together two hits in the top of the 3rd, and that was enough.

The Lady Tigers mounted several threats, but couldn’t get the tying run across the plate. In the bottom of the 7th, Lauren Strobel tripled on a misplayed ball to right field, but the Lady Tigers stranded her at third base.

Republic falls to 14-5, and Jefferson City improves to 9-8.

In the JV game, Republic couldn’t overcome an early deficit and lost 5-3. Jefferson City used a three-run 2nd inning to pull away early and held on. Molly Zinecker had two hits for the Lady Tigers.
