Volleyball  Varsity vs Branson 53The Republic Lady Tigers put together a solid defensive game in a COC sweep against Branson, 25-15 25-15.

“Our defense was pretty good,” says coach Piper Wright. “I thought we connected well with our setter. The hits looked pretty good, and we just kind of put a big block up and didn’t let anything hit the floor.”

Alex Botkin had a big night for Republic, with 7 kills, a block, and two service aces. Lexi Birlew had 9 digs to lead the defense. Sarah Kreul recorded 21 assists.

The Lady Tigers improve to 11-4 overall. They’re 2-0 in COC play. Branson falls to 10-7-3, and 0-2 in the conference.

Republic’s next match is next Tuesday at Neosho.

The JV team also won easily, 25-15 25-10.

The highlight of the night may have been the freshman girls’ thrilling three-set win. After dropping the first set 20-25, the Lady Tigers staved off elimination by winning game two 31-29. Building on the momentum from that victory, they went on to win game three 25-15.
