Lady Tigers Unfurl Banner, Then Unleash Defense

BotkinThe Republic Lady Tigers started the night by unfurling their 2012 state championship banner, then unleashed a swarming defense that ended their game against Springfield Central as soon as it started. The Lady Tigers scored the first 24 points of the game, led 24-2 at the end of the first quarter, and cruised to a 57-14 win.

Alice Heinzler had 13 points in the first quarter, and 18 by halftime, on the way to a game-high 20. Alex Botkin scored seven, all of them in the 1st-quarter blitz that put the game away.

The night began with recognition of the 2012 state champions and the unveiling of the new state championship banner. Every member of last year’s team, including graduating seniors Alexis Edwards, Taylor Wells, Brooke Dutton, Mercedes Doty and Kailey Mathis, returned for the ceremony.

BannerThe Lady Tigers also honored current team members Sarah Kreul, Lindsey Carlson, Alice Heinzler, Kayla Bartelsmeyer, Alex Botkin, Baylee Rayl, Micah Mansker and Tori Taylor. Last year’s coaching staff of Kris Flood, Tori Mooneyham and Amanda Plotner were also recognized.

The victory improves Republic’s record go 3-0. The JV team also stayed undefeated with a 55-10 win earlier in the evening.
