Republic Honors Inside Anchor of State Title Team

AlexisAlexis Edwards, the center who helped anchor the inside for Republic’s 2012 girls basketball state championship team, was back home to be recognized Tuesday night. Coach Kris Flood presented Edwards with the All-State plaque that will be hung alongside the plaques of other Republic all-state recipients.

Edwards was named to the All-Conference, All-District, and All-State teams after her junior season. She was named to the 1st team by both the Missouri coaches and the Missouri sportswriters. That season, Edwards and the Lady Tigers advanced to the state quarterfinals before falling just short of a trip to Columbia.

Edwards missed the first half of her senior year with a knee injury — as she had missed her entire sophomore season — but came back in time to help the Lady Tigers win the state championship. After her senior season, she was named to the Lions Club All-Star team and the Missouri Basketball Coaches Association All-Star team.

Edwards is currently attending Southwest Baptist University on a basketball scholarship. She is sitting out with a red-shirt her freshman season while she rehabilitates her knee. She’s pursuing a degree in athletic training.
