Five Republic players scored in double figures in a 77-50 win over Carl Junction at home Monday. Cody Geiger led the way with 22 points for the Tigers, who’ve won four straight.

Sluggish defense and poor shooting put the Tigers in a hole early. They trailed 10-6 when Coach Trevyor Fisher called time out to get his players back on track.

“I just thought we were going through the motions, not playing with much energy and effort. We just looked out of sync,” Fisher says. “I just told them it better change.

“I thought our attention to detail in the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th quarters was a lot better. We…got some steals, and took away some of the stuff they wanted to do.”

Republic took control in the 2nd quarter, outscoring Carl Junction 19-9. The Tigers put 25 on the board in the 3rd quarter, and led 64-36 heading into the final period. They did it with a balanced attack. Brock Yocum had one of his best offensive games of the year with 13 points. Canyon Smith and Dillen Ramsey each scored 11, and Dylan Bekemeier added ten. Chase Hoffmann added nine, and Cole Hurst got into the scorebook with a steal and layup for his two points in the 4th quarter.

“That’s the best part of our team. you just never know. One through seven or eight guys can come in and contribute. I’ve never been worried about our offense. But defensively, we’ve got to be top-notch all the time,” Fisher says.

Republic improves to 13-1. Carl Junction falls to 6-4.

The Tigers are off for the rest of this week. They’ll play in the Rogersville Tournament next week.
