Republic Swats Hornets

untitled-176

Republic dominated the 1st half, but it took 38 minutes for Sierra Casagrand to give the Lady Tigers their first goal on the way to a 3-0 win at home over Hillcrest.

Republic’s first goal of the night came on a breakaway by Casagrand, who raced ahead of the nearest Hillcrest defender, tracked down the ball, and booted it home from about 15 yards out. The goal was the capper to a frustrating half for the Lady Tigers, who had managed several scoring opportunities, but had failed to score.

In the 2nd half, with a strong wind in its face, Republic played even with Hillcrest through the first 35 minutes. They got some breathing room with 12 minutes left in the game when Jocelyn Carpenter took a pass from Emily Griffith on the left wing and slid the ball past the goalie to make the score 2-0.

Ten minutes later, Sara Marcotte finished the scoring, putting the ball in the back of the net seconds after a penalty against Hillcrest had resulted in a free kick for the Lady Tigers.

Republic improves to 3-1 this season. Next Tuesday, the Lady Tigers travel to Mountain View Liberty. That’s the site of the program’s first-ever victory on March 31, 2011. Shelby King scored two goals in that one. You can read about it here.
