The Republic Lady Tigers looked like they were in control of their match on the road at Mountain View Liberty Tuesday night. Then all of a sudden, they weren’t.
Republic had to hold off a furious rally by Liberty in the 2nd half for a 4-3 win.
At halftime, Republic appeared to have the game in hand with a 4-0 lead. The Lady Tigers had broken ahead 1-0 on a penalty kick by Sara Marcotte less than three minutes into the game. They made it 2-0 when Marcotte scored her second goal, with an assist from Sierra Casagrand, at 22:47.
With just over 14 minutes left in the half, Emily Jordan got in on the fun to make it 3-0 Lady Tigers. And nine minutes later, Casagrand scored a goal with an assist from Marcotte to make it 4-0 going into the break.
But Liberty responded with a quick goal out of the halftime break, cutting the lead to 4-1 with just 21 seconds elapsed in the 2nd half. They scored again ten minutes later on a penalty kick to make it 4-3.
With five minutes left, Liberty scored a third goal to get within striking distance, but they couldn’t find the equalizer, and Republic escaped with a win.
Republic improves to 4-1 this season. They next play Friday at Joplin McAuley in a game that was originally scheduled for Thursday.
