Lady Tigers Win Two in Shootout

The Republic Lady Tigers won two of three games at the Ozark Shootout this weekend, and allowed just one goal in the process.

Republic lost its opener 1-0 to Rogers, Ark., Friday night, then beat Rogersville 4-0 and knocked off Northwest 2-0 Saturday.

“Rogers is very well organized. They’re very physical. That’s something we haven’t been experiencing lately, and it’s something you need to get used to — having someone in your back,” says Coach Mike Hines. “They pushed us around, and it just shows that we need to be 1) quicker passing the ball, or 2) tougher.”

Republic rebounded quickly with a 4-0 shutout against Rogersville Saturday morning. Sara Marcotte scored three goals and Morgan Jones scored one.

In the afternoon game, Republic and Northwest were scoreless until Emily Jordan broke the scoreless tie with 6:38 left. She scored a second goal with one minute remaining to make it 2-0.

Because Republic lost its opening game against Rogers, it ended up 5th despite picking up two wins on Saturday. The Lady Tigeres are now 8-2 overall this season.
