Republic Topples State-Ranked Marshfield

Republic’s Austin Beckner struck out seven and allowed just one run in a 4-1 win over Marshfield (#8 Class 4) on the road Friday night. Beckner allowed just six hits and one walk in six innings to pick up the win.

Parker Nelson was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored for the Tigers. Coates added two RBIs and scored a run.

Republic got all the runs it needed in the top of the 2nd inning. Beckner led off with a double, Dustin Eby was hit by a pitch, and both runners advanced on a wild pitch. After Jake Smith fouled out, Chandler Coates doubled home both runners, then came around to score on a single by Nelson.

The Tigers made it 4-0 in the top of the 5th when Nelson scored on an error.

Marshfield’s only run of the game came in the 6th, when Logan McAnarney singled home Ben Noel.

Chandler Coates pitched a scoreless 7th inning to pick up the save.

The Tigers improve to 3-4 this season. They play again at home Tuesday at Cassville.
