Shepherd Shuts Down Tigers

Sawyer Shepherd held the Tigers to just four hits, as Carthage picked up a COC win at Republic 4-1 Tuesday. Shepherd struck out seven and walked four, allowing just one earned run.

Gavin Huke was 2-for-3 with a run scored for Carthage, and Jared Heman drove in two runs.

For Republic, Alex Reynolds was 2-for-3 with a double, and drove in the only run of the game in the 6th inning, when he singled home Regan Butterworth.

Austin Beckner took the loss on the mound for Republic. He allowed four runs — three of them earned — in five innings. Beckner struck out nine and walked three.

Creed Smiley and Butterworth each had one hit for Republic.
