The Lady Tigers softball team had to sit through a lightning delay of more than an hour during their opening game of the 2014 season, but it was their bats that caused most of the damage Tuesday night. Republic exploded for 21 runs on 16 hits in a 21-0 win over Hollister in three innings.

Kami Holt had two hits in the first inning — including a grand slam slam. She added one other hit and drove in six runs total. Molly Zinecker and Lauren Strobel added three RBIs apiece. Everyone in the lineup got at least one hit. Hollister committed seven errors.

Rachel Rook was in midseason form, striking out eight hitters in just three innings. She didn’t allow a hit. The only runner to reach base was a hit batter. Hollister managed to put just one ball in play all night, and that was a weak ground ball to third base.

Republic improves to 1-0 and will face Monett at home Thursday night.
