Carthage Shuts Out Republic

Republic Tiger Sports20141007-2

Republic played one of its better games of the season, but couldn’t catch a break in a 2-0 loss at home to a tough Carthage team Tuesday night. The Tigers gave up one goal in each half, and could never score themselves, despite plenty of scoring opportunities.

Republic possessed the ball well in the first half, and had more than one breakaway opportunity against the Carthage defense, but couldn’t convert. After Carthage got on the board with 3:38 left in the half, Republic had its best opportunity just 30 seconds later, but a Mitchell Heinzler shot was deflected by the goalie, knocked into the air, hit the cross bar, and fell on top of the net.

” played really well…had plenty of chances…hit the post… had breakaways…just could not find the back of the net,” says coach David Ashby. “Sometimes the ball just rolls funny. not upset about it.”
