Soccer Tigers Beat Bolivar

Republic scored three goals in the second half to outlast Bolivar on the road Thursday, 4-2. It was the first boys soccer win over Bolivar since Republic started its program.

Tied 1-1 at halftime, Republic took the lead on a throw-in from Tanner Peabody to Julio Quezada. The Tigers made it a two-goal lead when Quezada scored a short time later to make it 3-1.

After a long delay caused by an injury — a Bolivar player suffered a broken leg in a collision with Republic’s Tanner Peabody — Republic added one more goal. Mitchell Heinzler put the ball in the back of the net from 35 yards out. Coach David Ashby called it “one of the prettiest goals I’ve ever seen in a high school game.”

Republic’s next game is at home next Tuesday. It will be Senior Night for the Tigers, as they take on Webb City.
