Republic pulled away from Greenwood in the second half on the way to a 4-2 victory in Springfield Monday.

Julio Quezada scored three goals for the Tigers, including the final two that accounted for the margin of victory. Mitchell Heinzler scored the other goal for Republic.

The Tigers jumped out early, but Greenwood tied the game in the first half and it stayed tied until halftime. Republic took a 2-1 lead on Heinzler’s goal and Greenwood tied it again before the Tigers pulled away with two straight from Quezada.

“The first half was sloppy… We kept giving the ball away way too easily. Once we started to possess, the game shifted in our direction,” says coach David Ashby, who says some personnel shifts helped get the team moving after halftime.

“I started moving some people around…started moving some of my outside-mids  subbing these guys out a little bit more. As soon as they started to relax and find feet , it made all the difference in the world.”
