Bench Fuels Blowout As Lady Tigers Crush Marshfield

Brooke Stanfield is fouled multiple times while taking a shot. She finished with 14 points.

Republic’s defense allowed only eight points in the first 13 1/2 minutes of the game as the Lady Tigers rolled to uneasy when at home over Marshfield Thursday, 70-44. Republic lead 22-8 at the end of the first quarter, then piled up 13 more points in a row to start the second quarter, just for good measure.

Coach Kris Flood calls it the best stretch of basketball his team has played all year.

“That’s probably the best half we’ve played to this point, and I thought it extended even past that,” he says. “I thought we came out and played well again in the third quarter and extended the lead.

“We really shot it well. I thought they moved well without the ball–cutting well. And we were knocking some shots down.”

Four Lady Tigers scored in double figures, led by Brooke Stanfield with 14. Logan Flood and Jordan Kabetske each scored 11 and Brylee Argo added 10. Michayla Shanks scored eight, Jade Sawyer scored seven, Tori Taylor had four, Madison Appleberry had three, and Allyson Barrett scored two for the Lady Tigers.

Other than Stanfield, three of the four leading scorers came off the bench for Republic.

“We’ve got some balance again tonight. We’ve got several kids who are stepping up there,” Flood says. “The kids coming off the bench, they’re contributing. That’s always a pleasure–you don’t miss a beat if you get someone in foul trouble. You’ve got confidence in those kids that come in there and play and can contribute right off the bat.”

Republic will practice tomorrow, then take the weekend off. They have more than a week between games, and Flood says they’ll use the time to rest up and heal some bumps and bruises before they head into the home stretch.

“We didn’t want to go into this two-week lull where we don’t play with a bad taste in our mouth. will make it a little bit easier,” he says.

Republic improves to 12-2 overall.
