The Republic Lady Tigers allowed only eight points in the first quarter at Willard, and their defense was even better in the second quarter. The Lady Tigers used their pressure defense to sprint to a 47-14 halftime lead on the way to their 20th win of the season, 71-38.

Republic jumped ahead 28-8 against a Willard team that was unable to handle the Lady Tigers’ quickness in the full court. Jade Sawyer scored eight points in the first quarter, Michayla Shanks scored seven, and Republic never looked back.

“We were able to get some easy baskets and really got off to a fast start. That was a key there,” says coach Kris Flood.

The only hiccup came in the third quarter, when Republic allowed Willard to score 21 points, cutting the lead to 57-35 after it had briefly been above 30.

“We lost some intensity defensively. We didn’t crash the boards very well tonight on the offensive end,” says Flood. “But considering the way we started out…after a little lull, I thought they played a little bit better there in the fourth quarter.”

Brooke Stanfield led the Lady Tigers with 17 points. Jordan Kabetske added 14, and Shanks had 13. Sawyer finished with eight. Tori Taylor had six. Brylee Argo scored seven. Carly Bayans and Alexis Ladwig had two apiece, and Micah Mansker scored one.

The Lady Tigers improve to 20-2 overall. They stay atop the Central Ozark Conference standings with a 5-0 record in the league.
