Nixa scored three early runs and held on behind a strong pitching performance by Jacob Ruder for a 3-1 win over Republic in the opening game for both teams.

The Eagles jumped ahead 2-0 in the top of the first on a bases-loaded walk by Chandler Coates and an RBI single by Luke Hauswirth. They added an unearned run in the top of the 2nd when Daven Rozell reached on an error and Colin Chandler drove him in.

Meanwhile, Ruder cruised for five innings before reaching a 60-pitch limit, striking out 13 Tigers without allowing a hit.

The Tigers threatened to come back in the bottom of the seventh. Regan Butterworth and Gage Morris led off with back-to-back doubles to make the score 3-1. Ryan Cape hit a line drive right at the left fielder for the first out of the inning before Hauswirth came in to pitch for Nixa, recording the final two outs and picking up the save.

Ruder picked up the win. Coates took the loss, working five innings and giving up two earned runs on six hits. He struck out six and walked three.

Jansen McQuerter pitched two scoreless innings for the Tigers.

The JV Tigers beat Nixa 9-4.

Republic is home Monday against Rogersville.
