Republic’s #1 tennis player was dominant in the first dual of the season — and so was everyone else in a Tiger uniform. Michael Nacy helped lead the Tigers to 9-0 sweep of Carthage Monday. It was the first sweep of Carthage in the history of Republic’s tennis program.

Nacy opened the season in top form, winning his singles match without dropping a game as he beat Riley Hershey 8-0. Nacy also teamed with Jacob Overturf for an 8-2 victory in doubles.

Bradley Hendrix, the #2 player in the Republic lineup, was almost as good, beating Jared Golden 8-1. Hendrix and Gabe Bandfield won their doubles match 8-3. Bandfield was also an 8-3 winner in singles, playing in the #3 spot in the lineup.

Two freshmen made their varsity debuts with wins. Dylan Mackey (8-1) and Austin Massey (8-4) were singles winners, and also teamed to win their doubles match (8-1).

Freshman Ryan Cameron helped clinch a JV victory in the deciding match with a 7-6 (7-4) win.

Republic improves to 1-0. They play a round-robin tournament Wednesday in Mount Vernon against Clever, Monett, and Mount Vernon. The JV team will be at home Thursday against Clever.
