Republic’s lineup banged out 16 hits and Jansen McQuerter allowed only three hits to Mount Vernon as the Tigers rebounded from a two-game losing streak with an 8-0 win over the Mountaineers at home. Jake Smith was 4-for-4 with three doubles — all of them to the fence in deep left field. He drove in two runs and scored twice.

Two Tigers–Maverick Lopez and Garrett Presnall–turned in their first career varsity base hits in the game. Lopez finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Presnall doubled and came around to score.

Gage Morris added three hits, Ryan Cape had two, and Austin Atkins, Regan Butterworth, McQuerter, and Alex Reynolds had one apiece.

McQuerter turned in his best pitching performance of the year, throwing a seven-inning complete game and allowing just three hits and two walks. He struck out five. He lowered his earned run average for the season to 1.12 in 25 innings pitched.

The Tigers are now 8-3. Their next game is on the road at Carthage next Tuesday.
