Brooke Stanfield has earned all-state honors in two sports. She’s broken school records. And she did it without specializing. She won’t start specializing when she gets to Drury University, either.
Stanfield has signed to play basketball and participate in track & field at Drury next year. She’ll leave a void in three programs — basketball, track, and volleyball — at Republic next year.
“I’ve been around Republic sports a long time. I grew up watching. I played myself and coached for 17 years,” says coach Tori Mooneyham.
“She didn’t settle and play one sport or two sports. She chose to play three sports and was definitely a star athlete because of it.
“She’s made a name for herself, and in 20-30 years, people are going to know who Brooke Stanfield is. She definitely goes down as one of the best girl athletes to come through Republic.”
Stanfield says she’s looking forward to competing against even better athletes at the college level, because of what it will do to help her improve.
“All of them are all-state athletes, so to put myself in with all these other athletes, it’s going to allow me to push myself more than I ever have,” she says. “That’s what I’m most excited about.”
Stanfield says high school sports at Republic has taught her a lot of lessons, and she won’t be leaving those behind as she moves into the college ranks.
“The success I had in high school, the lessons I’ve learned, the coaches — the lessons they’ve taught me — those are always going to be with me,” she says. “It’s really encouraging knowing that…college can’t take these lessons from me. I’ll always have them.”
Stanfield has been a key part of the Lady Tiger basketball program for four years, and Flood says she can’t be replaced.
“She’s going to be tremendously missed. Drury University is getting not just a great athlete, but they’re getting a great citizen,” Flood says. “There’s no doubt in my mind she will have a ton of success at that next level.”
