Lady Tigers Stumble as Rogersville Nets Tennis Win

The Lady Tigers tennis team lost a few close matches and it cost them, as they suffered their first loss of the year at Rogersville, 6-3.

The night began with three close decisions in doubles competition. Republic lost two of them. Kaitlyn Snyder and Kaytlin Pearce lost their match to Courtney Potter and Mattie Miles 8-6. Macie Thornhill and Heather Georges lost to Sarah Jordan and Samantha Hernandez by the same score. Only Molly Womack and Makenzie Clark picked up a doubles win, 8-5.

In singles, Thornhill won a tie-breaker over Hernandez, and Georges won her match against Taylor Ellison 8-2. Rogersville won the other four singles matches to clinch the victory.

“The girls worked hard tonight, but some poor play early put us in a hole,” says coach Eric Hanson. “We made it competitive in several matches including some good wins by Heather Georges, a doubles win by Makenzie Clark and Molly Womack and a great come-from-behind win by Macie Thornhill. But in the end, you can’t give good teams like Rogersville easy points and expect to win.”

The Lady Tigers fall to 2-1. They host Carthage on August 29.
