Summers’ Blast Sparks Republic Blowout

Karleigh Summers homered and scored three times, and Rachel Rook struck out seven batters in five innings, as the Lady Tigers blew past Reeds Spring 12-0 at home Tuesday.

Republic jumped ahead early and never looked back, scoring two runs in the first inning, four in the second, two in the third, and four more in the fourth. The big blast was Summers’ first career varsity home run—a line drive over the center field fence after Alyssa Roth had reached on an error to start the second inning.

Megan Thorne had two hits and scored a run for the Lady Tigers. Sydney Phillips, Taylor Hulland, Julia Higgins, and Roth had one hit apiece. Kami Holt scored three times.

Rook pitched five innings, allowing just one hit, walking two batters, and hitting a batter. Her seven strikeouts run her season total to 13.

The Lady Tigers are 2-0. They travel to Shawnee, Oklahoma for a tournament this weekend.
