4th Quarter Funk Sinks Lady Tigers

As the 4th quarter began, Republic trailed Jefferson City (#10 Class 5) by only one point. From there, things went south in a hurry. The Lady Jays scored the next ten points, outscored Republic 19-5 in the 4th quarter, and cruised to a 52-37 win over the Lady Tigers in the Maries County Bank Shootout at St. James Saturday.

Republic had jumped to an early lead, 12-10 after the 1st quarter. Jefferson City outscored the Lady Tigers 13-10 in the 2nd quarter to nab a 23-22 halftime lead. Republic took control again as the 2nd half began, pushing ahead 28-24 before the Lady Jays fought back to regain the momentum, which they never relinquished.

The Lady Tigers shot just 29% from the floor (14-for-49), and 22% from beyond the 3-point arc (5-for-23). Jefferson City shot 43% from the floor (15-for-35) and made one of five 3-point attempts.

Megan Branstetter led the Lady Tigers with 14 points. Brylee Manes scored 10. Taylor Fergen and Madi Beckham scored five apiece. Allyson Barrett scored two and Morgan McGuire had one.

Republic falls to 1-2. The Lady Tigers won’t play again until December 8th against Olathe East in the Kickapoo Classic.

Player of the Game

Megan Branstetter came off the bench to give the Lady Tigers a lift in the 1st half. She ended the game with 14 points, including two 3-pointers, to earn Player of the Game honors.
