Beachler Resigns as Head Football Coach

Wes Beachler has resigned his position as head football coach at Republic after four seasons. In Beachler’s second season at Republic, 2014, he led the Tigers to a 6-5 record. It was their first winning season since 2007. They followed that up with an identical 6-5 record in 2015, but they faltered to 2-8 this year.

“I’ve got a good staff here and had an enjoyable four years coaching these young men. It has nothing to do with Republic or the young men that I coached or even a 2-8 season,” Beachler says. “It’s just a personal decision that I thought was best at this time.”
For Republic, it will be the second football coaching search in five years. Athletic director Greg Garton says they’ll move forward soon to seek a replacement.

“Once the (resignation) letter is accepted by our board, (Principal Tyler) Overstreet and I will begin the process of posting dates to accept applications. We’ll narrow those down and do an interview process, and we’ll do everything we can to get the best head coach we can find.”
Garton says the timing of Beachler’s resignation puts Republic in a good position to get applications from a larger pool of potential coaches, because it happened soon after the season.

The early timing was important for Beachler, too, as he considers what he wants to do in the future.

“It may be administration. That’s why I decided to do it so quickly, to explore what’s out there and make sure I’m making the right decision. If I do end up moving out of Republic, I don’t want to move my kids again, so I want to really think it through before I make a decision,” Beachler says.

Beachler says he won’t rule out another tenure as a coach.

“I think I see myself coaching in the future. It’s going to have to be the right situation. There may be some time off. There might not be, but I still enjoy coaching and I can’t imagine doing anything else in the fall. And if I’m not doing anything next fall, I’ll be at Republic’s games and I’ll be watching these young men perform.”
