Lander Vaults Into College

Haven Lander already has a state championship in pole vault. But she’s looking forward to the opportunities awaiting her as a member of the track & field team at Pittsburg State University.

“I think there’s a lot more opportunities at the college level, because you go to nationals and you go to all of these big meets, and travel to more schools and meet more people,” Lander says. “, we basically see the same schools every year. In college you get to go to other states and see all of these new things.”

Lander says she’s been leaning toward Pitt State since the beginning of her junior year, partly because of the school’s small size. But that wasn’t the only factor.

” I really liked the coach and how knowledgeable he was about pole vaulting, and the school just really appealed to me in that way,” she says.

Lander says the work ethic she’s learned as a Lady Tiger will carry over to her time in college.

“I think that I can take all of the hard work and determination that we have and bring that into my vaulting at Pitt State,” she says.
