Lady Tigers Finish Strong to Win a Wild One

On a night when the momentum swung back and forth from one team to the other and back again, it was Republic who seized the momentum — and the lead — at the end of the game for a 74-70 win over Camdenton at Bolivar Wednesday.

The Lakers had bolted ahead after a personal foul on Taylor Fergen and a resulting technical foul landed her on the bench in the 3rd quarter. Camdenton went on an 11-2 run to take a 50-42 lead. But a three-pointer by Halli Bartelsmeyer, followed by a baseline jumper, helped turn the tide back to Republic. The Lady Tigers closed to within one point, 52-51, as the 4th quarter began.

Camdenton jumped ahead again early in the 4th, but Republic went on a 13-5 run to take the control down the stretch.

Coach Kris Flood says Bartelsmeyer's big plays came at an important point for Republic.

"She hit when we needed it and made a couple of baskets underneath the goal. When we got into a bad spot there with Taylor…that could have been a huge turning point, but we rode it out and stayed in the game and were able to get some kids back in and finish off."

The 1st half was a battle of streaks, as well. Camdenton jumped ahead 14-8, but Republic went on a 20-3 run to take a 28-17 lead on a layup by Taylor Fergen around the midpoint of the 2nd quarter.

Camdenton answered with 10 straight points of its own, and eventually tied the score before Republic grabbed a two-point lead at halftime, 35-33.

Republic improves to 11-6. The Lady Tigers are back in Bolivar for the final game of the tournament Friday night.

Player of the Game

She wasn’t the Lady Tigers’ leading scorer, but Halli Bartelsmeyer stepped up when Republic needed her. With Taylor Fergen in foul trouble and Camdenton seizing control of the game, Bartelsmeyer scored eight points, all in the 2nd half. She turned the momentum back in Republic’s favor, and she’s our Player of the Game.
