Holt Slugs Her Way to Evangel

Kami Holt broke a lot of softball records in her four years as a Republic Lady Tiger. She’ll take aim at new records for the next four years at Evangel University, where she’s signed a letter of intent to play softball next fall.

Holt is among the most prolific home run hitters in the history of Missouri high school softball. She finished her career with 27 home runs — 6th all time in Missouri history. She holds Republic records for runs scored and RBIs in a game, for triples in a season, and for runs scored in a season.

Coach Lee Dishman says her presence outside the lines was also important to the program.

“Off the field, she’s a great student. She works hard in the classroom,” he says, “Just being a role model to the younger girls—the way she plays and how hard she plays the game—is an asset for us, for the younger kids to see her play.”

Holt says Evangel was an easy choice for her.

“I fell in love with the school when I went on a tour and met the coach, and he’s everything I’ve ever wanted in a coach,” Holt says. “He reminds me so much of my travel ball coach and makes me want to play, and I love that feeling.”

Holt says she knows achieving what she achieved in high school won’t be easy at the college level, but she intends to have a repeat performance at Evangel.

“The only way it would be different if I didn’t work as hard as I did in high school,” she says. “I plan on working even harder in college, so I plan on getting back to where I was.”
