Webb City Shuts Down Tigers

For the second game in a row, the Republic bats were silent in a home loss against Webb City Monday, 5-1.

The Cardinals struck first in the top of the third inning, when a two-run double by Mark Duley gave them a 2-0 lead.

Republic's only run came in the bottom of the fourth, without the benefit of a base hit. Josh Gentry scored on an infield error to make it 2-1. The Tigers briefly thought they had tied the game on a wild pitch, but the field umpire overruled the home plate umpire, calling a foul ball and sending the runner back to third.

In the top of the fifth inning, Matt Duley gave the Cardinals another run with an RBI triple. Webb City scored two more in the sixth inning for added insurance.

The Tigers scratched out only two base hits, despite hitting into several line drive outs. Both of them came in the bottom of the sixth inning, but Republic was on able to push a runner across.

Sophomore Cade Beason was the winning pitcher for Webb City. Austin Atkins suffered his first loss for Republic. Chase Igert and Tim McWilliams both pitched in relief.

The Tigers fall to 0-2.
