State Golf: Rough Finish Doesn’t Spoil Coiner’s Season

Mitch Coiner’s two days at the state golf tournament in Joplin were not what he expected — but he’s not letting it dictate the way he looks back on his golf career at Republic. (Scroll down for photos.)

Coiner finished far off the all-state scores he was hoping for, but he says he’ll have fond memories of the seaon.

“While I didn’t play how I wanted to at State, there’s still a lot of positive to take from this golf season. The friendships and memories made will be something I’ll never forget,” Coiner says.

Even qualifying for sectionals seemed like a tough task as the season came to a close, because Coiner was struggling with his game.

“I had a tough stretch late into this golf season where I was just trying to figure some stuff out with my swing. I wasn’t real confident going into Districts because I wasn’t sure if I had got it figured out yet or not,” he says. “So being able to figure out my swing and make cuts at practically the same time was tough, but definitely something that I’m proud of. Unfortunately, State was the last time I will ever compete as a Republic Tiger, and those memories in them self are a positive and something I will cherish forever.”
