Soccer Defense Shuts Out Bulldogs for 13th Straight

For the second straight game, Republic’s high-scoring soccer offense was held in check by its opponent. And for the second straight game, the defense came up big. The Tigers got a shutout from Dalton Ghan and the Defense in a 1-0 win over Carl Junction at home Tuesday night for their 13th consecutive victory. It’s the longest winning streak in program history.

The only score of the night came early in the 1st half, when Dylan Brown knocked home a penalty kick. From there, it was up to the Tiger defense to hold the lead, and they did.

The 1-0 games are really nerve wracking for me and the defense. We did a really good job with it tonight, but I’d rather it be 3-0, 4-0, because you have that cushion there,” Ghan says. The Tiger goalkeeper says he feels less pressure even in a tie game than with a 1-0 lead.

“0–0 is a different story. Say you get scored on…you can have that drive to get back at it,” Ghan says. “When it’s 1-0, you just want to play defense. It’s more pressure like that.”

Republic improves to 15-2. They’re off until next Tuesday, when they travel to Carthage for a conference showdown.
