Shootout Blowout: Tigers Dismantle Forsyth

The Tigers broke their two-game losing streak in dominant fashion Saturday, romping past Forsyth 60-24 in the Ozark Mountain Shootout at Glendale High School. Republic sprinted to a 19-4 lead after the first quarter and didn’t let up until the game was far out of reach.

Three different Tigers scored in double figures: Broc Smith, Drew McMillin, and Tucker Thomas. Eight different Tigers scored in all. It was 36-10 at halftime and 53-19 at the end of three quarters.

As good as the offense was, the defense was even better.

“That was our emphasis. We had given up way too many layups the first three games, and our whole focus was keeping them out of the paint,” says coach Trevyor Fisher. “We did a very good job of that, especially with their personnel. Their point guard number averages about 20 a game, and we knew he was going to try to get to the basket, and we kept him from getting in there. It was a much better focus and defensive effort on our on our part.”

Broc Smith scored 14 points to lead Republic, despite spending time on the bench in foul trouble. Freshman Drew McMillin continued to shine, scoring 13 points, and sophomore Tucker Thomas had the best game of his season so far, scoring 11, all in the first half.

Republic improves its record to 2-2. The Tigers are on the road at Springfield Parkview Tuesday.
