This is the place to get live updates when Republic travels to West Plains for Week 9. The Tigers are trying to wrap up a playoff spot with a victory, coupled with a Hillcrest win over Marshfield tonight. I’ll have stats, scoring updates, video highlights and more, starting with the kickoff at 7pm.

Senior Jake Laswell rushed for 109 yards and three touchdowns, and picked off a pass, as Republic manhandled Marshfield 37-7. Senior Jacie Austin also rushed for 101 yards and a touchdown for the Tigers, who celebrated Senior Night with a win to open district play.

Republic’s starting defense also held Marshfield to less than 150 total yards, before a late Blue Jay drive against the JV defense.

Laswell’s big night started on Marshfield’s opening possession, when he intercepted a pass and returned it to the 3-yard line. On the next play, he took a handoff from Nick Williams and pounded through the Marshfield line into the end zone. The Tigers missed the extra point and the lead was 6-0.

On the Tigers’ next possession, Laswell broke a 40-yard run to set up his second touchdown–a 1-yard plunge with 6:31 left in the 1st quarter. Republic’s 2-point conversion made it 14-0.

Republic scored again early in the 2nd quarter on a 6-yard run by Laswell. They led 21-0 with 10:48 to go in the half.

After punting for the first time on their next possession, they got the ball back and scored again. The Tigers went 81 yards and scored on an 18-yard run by Nick Williams with 3:04 left in the half. After another 2-point conversion, it was 29-0.

On the first play from scrimmage in the 2nd half, Jacie Austin went 57 yards down the left sideline for a touchdown. He also scored a 2-point conversion, and that made the lead 37-0 with 11:39 left in 3rd quarter.

Marshfield scored a late touchdown against the JV defense to account for the final score of 37-7.

The Tigers will be on the road next week at West Plains. Hillcrest blew out the Zizzers 49-0 in the district opener for those two teams.

Seth Beckner rushed for 145 yards and scored four touchdowns to lead Carthage past Republic 28-6 Friday at Carthage.

Beckner put Carthage on top 7-0 with a two-yard run in the first quarter, and the score stayed that way until 8:27 left in the half. That’s when Beckner got loose again, running 24 yards to paydirt, and giving Carthage a 14-0 lead.

During Republic’s ensuing possession, Sam Carlton picked off a pass by James Desjardins to set up Carthage’s next score. A few plays later, Beckner took a screen pass 28 yards and made the lead 21-0, where it stayed until halftime.

In the 3rd quarter, Republic’s defense stopped Carthage on downs and the Tigers got their first score on the next drive. After a 41-yard pass from Desjardins to Garrett Metscher, Jake Laswell scored on a 1-yard run with 8:41 left in the quarter. The Tigers’ extra-point was blocked, and it was 21-6.

Republic had a chance to cut the lead further after recovering a Carthage fumble at the end of the 3rd quarter. But the Tigers’ drive stalled after a pass fell incomplete in the end zone. The Republic coaching staff argued for a pass interference call, but didn’t get it, and the drive ended on downs.

Carthage scored again with 3:34 left in the game, when Beckner took the ball around the right end from one yard out, and that accounted for the final score of 28-6.

Republic ended up with 224 yards of total offense. Jacie Austin finished with 66 yards on 17 carries. Desjardins had 61 yards on 17 carries. Jake Laswell picked up 40 yards on 11 carries. Garrett Metscher caught two passes for 63 yards.

Republic falls to 2-5. Carthage improves to 5-2.
