Tigers Win Another Tourney

The Republic varsity golf squad won their tournament at Silo Ridge Country Club in Bolivar Monday. The Tigers shot a 334, winning the tournament by eight strokes. Willard and Nevada finished tied for 2nd with a 342. Fifteen teams competed.

Beau Allen shot a 78 to lead the way for Republic. That was good enough for 5th overall. Dylan Bekemeier placed 7th with a 79. Nick Yocum shot an 85, Jake Fletcher a 92, and Pierce Pittman a 97.

Golfers Win 1st at Cassville

Republic’s golf team came out on top among 15 teams at the Cassville golf tournament Thursday. Republic shot a 330 to beat the field by 13 strokes. Monett shot a 343 to take 2nd, and Carl Junction was 3rd, with a 345.

Dylan Bekemeier was the overall individual medalist. He shot a 72.

Pierce Pittman placed 7th with an 81. Beau Allen shot an 86, Jake Fletcher a 91, and Tanner Hughes a 93.

Wednesday, Republic JV finished 6th out of 15 teams at Aurora. Hughes placed 4th overall with a score of 89.

Republic Golfers Finish 3rd

Republic’s golf team finished third at the Rogersville Tournament Tuesday. The Tigers shot a combined 171. That was nine strokes off the pace set by winner Rogersville, which finished at 162. Springfield Catholic took third with a 168.

Republic’s JV beat the field with a score of 193, two strokes ahead of Rogerville.

Republic Dominates Links vs Morrisville

Republic matched its best performance of the young season on the golf course, easily outdistancing Morrisville in a 9-hole match Tuesday.

Republic scored a 161, led by Dylan Bekemeier with a 38. Pierce Pittman finished 2nd with a 39, and Nick Yocum took 3rd, with a 42.

The Republic JV team shot a 179, and Morrisville turned in a 220.

Tigers Whip Weather, Houn’ Dawgs for Victory

Yocum 105Dylan 106Republic’s golf team moved to 2-0 with a four-shot victory over Aurora in rough weather conditions Friday. Republic finished with a 161 total in the 9-hole meet, and Aurora shot a 165.

Tanner Hughes shot a 39 to lead Republic and place 2nd overall. Dylan Bekemeier and Beau Allen each shot 40, good enough to tie for 5th. Nick Yocum and Pierce Pittman each shot 42 for Republic.

Golfers Open with Victory over Ozark

Republic’s golf team opened the season Monday with a win over Ozark. Republic scored a 173 for the 9-hole match, to easily beat Ozark’s total of 187.

Republic’s Dylan Bekemeier and Nick Yocum both shot a 42, tying Ozark’d Kevin Kolstad for the medalist spot.

Coach Ben Wolfinbarger says the wet, rainy conditions Monday were out of the ordinary for what the team has experienced up to now.

“Most of the time early in the year, we deal with rain and strong winds,” says Wolfinbarger. “This year, the weather’s been nice enough for us to play every day. It was a lot tougher on our guys today.”

Republic is back in action for another 9-hole match Friday at Honey Creek in Aurora.

Republic Honors Payton Rayl

PaytonraylRepublic has recognized graduate 2011 Payton Rayl for her all-state honors in golf. Rayl placed 11th in the state overall during her senior year. She won five of seven tournaments she entered that year, won the district, and placed 5th at sectionals. Her all-state plaque will be hung alongside the school’s other all-state athletes.

Rayl holds most of Republic’s career golf records. She was a four-time all-COC selection and two-time COC champion.

Rayl also excelled on the basketball floor as a point guard, helping lead the Lady Tigers to three district championships. The Lady Tigers went to the state quarterfinals doing her senior season.

Before high school, Rayl was an outstanding junior golfer, and also a Missouri state champion in gymnastics.

Rayl graduated with a GPA of 4.3, and was a member of National Honor Society. She is majoring in biology at Drury University, and competing for the Lady Panthers golf team.

Quigley Improves on Previous State Finishes

Republic’s Allison Quigley finished tied for 36th in a field of 90 golfers, at the rain-shortened Class Two State Golf Championship in Sedalia.

After bad weather forced the cancellation of the tournament’s first day, golfers had only one round to make their mark Tuesday. Quigley shot a 91 in difficult weather conditions to finish in the top half of the field.

Lindsey Eisenreich of Rockwood Summit blew away the rest of the field, shooting a 1-over-par 72. That was eight strokes ahead of the second-place finisher, Sun Young Jung of Springfield Glendale.

This was Quigley’s third trip to the state tournament. She had previously finished 78th as a freshman and 37th as a sophomore, so this year’s performance improves on her previous finishes.

Quigley Qualifies for State Golf Tournament

Allison Quigley qualified for the state golf tournament by finishing sixth overall at sectionals Wednesday. Quigley shot an 89 at Rivercut Golf Course.

This marks her third trip to the state tournament. She finished 78th overall her freshman year and 37th last year.

The state tournament will be held in Sedalia on October 17th and 18th.

Two Golfers Advance to Sectionals

Republic’s Allison Quigley won the district golf tournament at Horton Smith today with a score of 77. Baylee Rayl finished tied for 4th with an 82.

Quigley and Rayle both advance to the sectional golf tournament at Rivercut Golf Course next Wednesday, October 5th.
