Republic Romps Past Marshfield

SoccerRepublic put an exclamation mark on their claim to the #1 district seed with a blowout win over Marshfield Thursday, 6-0. They are now 4-0 against the teams in their district.

Sara Marcotte scored three goals, and Sierra Casagrand, Samantha Minor and Lesleigh Fenton added one apiece.

Marcotte got things started with a goal at the 36 minute mark in the first half. She scored a second goal when the ball bounced off a Marshfield defender on its way into the goal. Casagrand scored next to make it 3-0.

Marcotte got loose in the goal box again late in the first half and put the ball in the back of the net to make it 4-0, and that was the score at halftime.

Soccer2In the second half, Minor scored on an assist from Marcotte with 34:48 remaining to give the Lady Tigers a 5-0 lead.

Lesleigh Fenton rounded out the scoring, scoring with 8:58 left.

The Lady Tigers improve to 12-6.

Lady Tigers Come From Behind

The Lady Tigers avoided Neosho’s upset bid and escaped with a 2-1 win on the road in double overtime.

The teams were scoreless in the first half, and Neosho took the lead with the first goal of the game early in the second half.

The Wildcats stayed on top until about ten minutes left in regulation. That’s when Sierra Casagrand took a pass from Samantha Minor and netted the equalizer, making the score 1-1.

Neither team could put the ball in the net for the remainder of regulation, or during the first overtime period. But Sara Marcotte scored the game-winner in the second overtime to give the Lady Tigers the victory.

The win also marked another milestone for the program, as the Lady Tigers scored the 50th goal of the season.

Lady Tigers Take 5th at West Plains

PhotoThe Republic Lady Tigers reached another milestone in their young program’s history, capturing the first tournament trophy over the weekend.

The Lady Tigers went 2-1 at West Plains, taking 5th place with a close loss and two dominating victories. Republic dropped the first game of the day against Mountain Home, Ark., 4-3, when Mountain Home scored a goal in the final ten seconds.

The Lady Tigers rebounded by beating West Plains 5-0, and Mountain View-Liberty 5-1, to finish fifth.

Lady Tigers Thrash Carthage

Soccer 229Republic jumped ahead early and never looked back on the way to a 5-1 soccer victory over Carthage.

The Lady Tigers first scored in the opening minutes when a slow, arching shot from Sara Marcotte went off the Carthage goalkeeper’s fingertips and into the net. Things went downhill from there for Carthage.

Republic built its lead to 4-1 by the end of the first half, and added a single goal after halftime to account for the final score.

Marcotte scored three goals and Sierra Casagrand added two. Republic improves to 8-5 overall.

The Lady Tigers also made about $260 for their autism fundraising effort with a bake sale.

Lady Tigers Hold Off McAuley 4-3

Republic got two goals apiece from Sierra Casagrand and Sara Marcotte, on the way to a 4-3 win over Joplin McAuley Thursday.

Republic fell behind 1-0, but evened the score in the first half when Casagrand scored on a free kick. The Lady Tigers took a 2-1 lead when Marcotte delivered a goal on an assist from Casagrand.

The Lady Tigers extended the lead to 3-1 in the 39th minute on Marcotte’s second goal of the night. They rounded out the scoring on a penalty kick from Casagrand around the 7:30 mark.

McAuley scored late to close the gap to 4-3, but Republic held on for its second win of the week. The Lady Tigers beat Central Tuesday.

Lady Tigers Collar Bulldogs

Minor 211Samantha Minor and Sierra Casagrand scored two goals apiece as the Lady Tigers beat Central 5-3 Tuesday night at Republic.

After Central controlled play in the early part of the first half but failed to score, Republic drew first blood when Casagrand scored on a cross by Minor. The Lady Tigers extended their lead to 2-0 when Minor took a cross from Sara Marcotte and found the back of the net.

After Central’s Aspen Hawkins scored to cut the lead to 2-1, Casagrand scored her second goal unassisted for the Lady Tigers from about 20 yards out. Minor followed with her second goal, also unassisted. Marcotte scored on a penalty kick with about 12 minutes remaining to extend the lead to 5-1.

Hawkins scored two late goals for Central to complete a hat trick, making the final score 5-3.

Marcotte Delivers Game-winner in OT

Sara Marcotte headed home the game-winner on a corner kick from Sierra Casagrand, as Republic beat Carl Junction 2-1 Thursday in overtime.

The Lady Tigers trailed most of the game on a cold, wet night in Carl Junction. The Bulldogs scored a first-half goal, and tried to make it stand up, but Marcotte evened the score late on a penalty kick to make the score 1-1. Neither team could break the tie in regulation, forcing the extra period.

The win is especially important because it sets up Republic to take the top seed in district play. Carl Junction, Marshfield, Rogersville and Hillcrest also compete in District 11.

Casagrand’s Hat Trick Leads Republic

Sierra 146Sierra Casagrand scored three goals in the first 24 minutes, leading Republic to a 6-0 win over Hillcrest at home.

Casagrand’s first goal came in the opening minute, and Republic never looked back. They led 3-0 after Casagrand completed her hat trick with 16 minutes left to go in the half. Freshman Jocelyn Carpenter scored a goal with two minutes left in the half to make it 4-0.

After the break, freshman Lesleigh Fenton scored to make it 5-0 with 34 minutes remaining. A penalty kick by Sara Marcotte rounded out the scoring for the Lady Tigers.

Republic rebounds from a 1-0 loss to Rolla last Friday. Despite the loss, that game was a measuring stick for the young program’s improvement in just one year. Last season, Rolla beat Republic 9-0 in the Lady Tigers’ inaugural season.

Late Goal Pushes Republic Past Liberty

Soccer 106Republic blew a 3-0 lead, but recovered to beat Liberty Thursday at home, 4-3.

The Lady Tigers jumped on top with two minutes left in the first half on a penalty kick by Sara Marcotte. They scored two more goals early in the second half. One came when Samantha Minor scored on a corner kick by Sierra Casagrand with 33:25 remaining. The next was a goal by Casagrand, giving Republic its 3-0 lead.

But Liberty answered quickly and seized the momentum, scoring three goals in succession to tie the game.

Marcotte netted the game-winner on a cross from Sierra Casagrand to help Republic salvage the victory.

Ozark Edges Republic 2-1

Republic led for much of the first half, but ended up losing to Ozark Tuesday, 2-1.

Sara Marcotte gave Republic the lead with an early goal, but Ozark scored the equalizer with just over seven minutes left in the half. They took the lead for good with a 2nd half goal that made the difference. Republic had scoring chances, but couldn’t capitalize.

Ozark improves to 3-1 this season. Republic falls to 1-2.
