Republic Outruns Rogersville

Heinzler 001Republic ripped off a 21-2 run to end the 1st quarter, and blew out Rogersville on the road, 60-27. Brooke Dutton and Alice Heinzler scored 7 points apiece in that first period, and Alex Botkin scored 6.

The Lady Tigers’ defense sparked the victory. Rogersville didn’t score double digits in any quarter. Their biggest offensive output came in the 4th quarter, when they scored 8.

Heinzler ended the game with 16 points to lead the Lady Tigers. Dutton and Botkin scored 9 each. Alexis Edwards added eight.

Republic led 26-6 after one quarter and 35-12 at halftime. It was 55-19 after three periods.

The Lady Tigers improve to 13-5.

The JV team also won, 57-40.

Lady Tigers Whack Webb City

IMG 9866The Republic Lady Tigers whipped Webb City in the opening round of the Creator Designs Queen of the Courts Showcase, 67-37. Republic bolted to the lead behind the 1-2 punch of Brooke Dutton and Alice Heinzler, who each scored nine points in the first quarter.

Dutton scored 17 total points to lead the Lady Tigers. Heinzler added 11. Kayla Bartelsmeyer scored 9 and Alexis Edwards had 7.

Nine different players scored in all for the Lady Tigers, who posted their second win over Webb City in nine days. Republic had beaten the Cardinals 73-59 at home earlier this month.

It was 21-8 when the first period ended. Republic ran the score to 43-14 at halftime, and led 56-24 after three.

Republic plays again Friday night at 8:30 at the O’Reilly Center at Drury University. The Lady Tigers will meet the winner of the Ozark/William Chrisman game.

Lady Tigers Run & Gun in Blue Jay Blowout

Press 091The Republic Lady Tigers smothered Marshfield with full-court pressure defense in a blowout win on the road, 60-27

The teams were tied 8-8 midway through the first quarter, but then Republic’s defense took over. At one point, the Lady Tiger press forced turnovers on four straight possessions. Republic went on a 27-4 run the rest of the half, and led 35-12 at the break. The Lady Tigers extended the lead to 47-19 by the end of the 3rd quarter.

Ten players scored for the Lady Tigers, in their most balanced offensive effort of the season. Alice Heinzler led Republic with 13 points. Alex Botkin had 9, Alexis Edwards and Kayla Bartelsmeyer added 8 apiece, and Lindsey Carlson scored 7.

Lady Tigers Ride Over Mustangs

Alice 001The Republic Lady Tigers bolted out of the gate quickly and left the McDonald County Mustangs in the dust, earning a 64-27 road victory.

Alice Heinzler drained six 3-pointers and finished with 24 points.

Alex Botkin had 12 points and Brooke Dutton scored 11. Baylee Rayl added five, Lindsey Carlson had four, and Kailey Mathis, Alexis Edwards and Sarah Kreul chipped in two apiece.

Heinzler led the way early, hitting four of her 3-point buckets in the first quarter. Republic led 21-6 after the first period, and eventually built the lead to 29-6 around the 5:00 mark of the 2nd quarter. A 6-0 run by McDonald County to close the half made the score 33-15 at halftime.

The Lady Tigers extended the lead to 41-15 early in the 3rd quarter and eventually extended the lead over 30 points, triggering a running clock for most of the 4th quarter.

Two Lady Tigers Earn All-State Honors

Two Republic Lady Tigers earned All-State honors in basketball for the 2010-2011 season. Junior Alexis Edwards and Senior Kyra Ramsey were both named to the All-State team in Class 4. The honors are handed out by the Missouri Basketball Coaches Association.

Edwards and Ramsey were joined by fellow COC players Lauren Aldridge (Marshfield) and Jonna Welch (Bolivar).

Republic advanced to the state quarterfinals before being eliminated by St. Francis Borgia. The Lady Tigers finished with a 21-7 record.

Lady Tigers Come Back to Beat Neosho

The Republic Lady Tigers overcame a poor shooting night to come from behind and beat Neosho Monday, 70-58. Alexis Edwards and Payton Rayl each scored 16 points to lead Republic. Alice Heinzler scored 10, and Sarah Kruel returned from an injury to chip in 9 points for the Lady Tigers.

Republic fell behind at halftime 30-26. But the Lady Tigers outscored Neosho 25-11 in the 3rd quarter to pull away.

Ashley Gillion had 18 points to lead Neosho.

The JV Lady Tigers won 77-24.

Lady Tigers Whip Waynesville

The Republic Lady Tigers defended their new state ranking with a win over Waynesville Thursday. Republic went on the road and beat Waynesville 61-44.

The Lady Tigers moved into the state rankings this week, at #7 in Class 4.

Brooke Dutton led Republic with 17 points. The Lady Tigers were playing without an injured Alexis Edwards.

The JV Lady Tigers won 60-41.

Lady Tigers Beat Zizzers to Take 3rd

The Republic Lady Tigers scored seven straight points when it counted most, and beat West Plains 54-49 to win 3rd place in the Pink & White Tournament. The Lady Tigers trailed 46-44 with less than four minutes left in the game when they went on their mini-run to grab the victory. Sarah Kruel had a key offensive rebound and putback during that stretch. She finished with a team-high 16 points for Republic.

Alexis Edwards and Kyra Ramsey scored 9 points apiece. Brooke Dutton added 7, Payton Rayl 6, Alex Botkin 4, and Alice Heinzler 3.

Republic used a balanced attack to jump out to a 12-point lead in the 1st quarter. They led 33-26 at halftime, with six players contributing to the scoring.

West Plains outscored Republic 13-4 during the opening minutes of the 3rd quarter to take their first lead, 39-37, with 2 1/2 minutes left in the period.

The game stayed close, with the teams trading buckets until the deciding run by Republic midway through the final period.

Lady Tigers Comeback Falls Short

The Republic Lady Tigers erased most of a 14-point first-half deficit, but their comeback bid fell just short in a 49-46 loss to top-seeded Ozark in the Pink & White Tournament semifinals.

Ozark used a 10-0 run during the 2nd quarter to build a 14-point lead at 28-14. A Kyra Ramsey 3-pointer just before halftime ended a string of 11 straight misses from the floor by Republic.

In the 2nd half, Republic rode the hot hand of Alexis Edwards to climb back into the game. Edwards scored 14 of her team-high 20 points after halftime, as Republic cut the Ozark lead to one point, at 43-42. But Ozark never folded, and Jackie Wacha hit 2 big free throws in the final seconds to help seal the victory.

Republic had one final possession to tie the game with a 3-pointer, but a jumper by Alice Heinzler was partially blocked, and time expired before Republic could get off another shot.

In addition to Edwards’ 20 points, the Lady Tigers got 11 points from Kyra Ramsey. Heinzler had two big 3-pointers in the 3rd quarter to help Republic cut into Ozark’s lead.

Hannah Cook had 18 points to lead Ozark.

Republic plays for 3rd place at JQH Arena Thursday at noon. Ozark will play in the championship game after that.

2nd Place Finish for Golfers

The Republic Lady Tigers golf team fell a little short of their third straight tournament title Wednesday at Fremont Hills. Republic finished second, four strokes behind Kickapoo, with a 383.

Payton Rayl was the top individual, shooting an 84. Baylee Rayl shot a 98 to place tenth, and Alexis Edwards shot 99 to finish 11th. Allison Quigley turned in a 102, playing for the first time since an illness kept her out of yesterday’s tournament in Bolivar.

Republic is back in action next Monday at Marshfield.
