Lady Tigers Get 2nd Straight Blowout Win

The Lady Tigers softball team finished its regular season on a high note, with a 10-0 victory over Marshfield Wednesday.  It was the second 10-0 win this week for Republic.

Hailey Johnson pitched her second shutout in a row.  Carlie Campbell contributed a diving catch in center field.

Republic heads into the district tournament later this week playing some of its best softball of the season.  The Lady Tigers beat Glendale and Marshfield by a combined score of 20-0.

The JV team won 6-1, thanks to strong pitching performances by Stephanie Eckhoff and Brooke Dutton.  They finished their season with a record of 12-2.

Two Seniors Come Through

On senior night, the softball team’s two seniors came through.  Hailey Johnson and Amanda Davis each had big nights in a 10-0 victory over Glendale, before being honored by their teammates and coaches.  The two seniors contributed three RBIs apiece, and Johnson pitched a shutout in their last game at Miller Park.

Payton Appleberry added a home run (watch the video) to break a personal 0-for-8 dry spell, and the Republic offense busted out of a collective slump heading into postseason play later this week.

After the game, the two seniors were honored for their contributions to the softball program, including their role in Republic’s first trip to the state semifinals last year.  The Lady Tigers improve to 12-6 this season.

Softball Kicks ‘Poo, 15-1

Republic used an eight-run second inning to blow past Kickapoo Tuesday, 15-1. The Lady Tigers scored two in the first, eight in the second, and five in the fourth, as they cruised to an easy victory.

Republic’s Hailey Johnson allowed just a single run, in the fourth inning. Kickapoo managed just one hit off Johnson.

Offensively, Amanda Davis led the way with two hits and four runs batted in. Johnson was 2-for-2 with three RBIs. Payton Appleberry and Carlie Campbell also had two hits for Republic. Every member of the starting lineup scored at least one run for the Lady Tigers — except Hailey Johnson, who was replaced by a courtesy runner when she reached base.

Nixa Edges Republic 1-0

CIMG1910Nixa scored a single unearned run in the top of the third inning, and that was enough to get a 1-0 victory over Republic at Miller Park.  The winning run scored after Nixa’s Alexis Leonhart reached on an error to lead off the third. Eckhoff No-Hits Glendale, Tigers Take 2

Stephanie Eckhoff pitched a no-hitter for the Republic softball team Friday, in an 11-0 win over Glendale at the Ozark Tournament last night. The Lady Tigers banged out nine hits of their own — including two apiece from Payton Appleberry, Carlie Campbell and Hailey Johnson — in earning their first victory of the tournament. Eckhoff also struck out one for the Lady Tigers.

In their second game of the night, Republic beat Ponca City 6-0. Hailey Johnson struck out eight, and went 2-for-3 at the plate. Lakin Ramsey added two hits and 3 RBIs in the victory.

The two wins set up a rematch for the Lady Tigers. They’ll meet Nixa Saturday morning. Nixa defeated Republic in the finals of the Nixa Tournament last weekend.

Softball Team Tops Neosho

The Republic softball team beat Neosho 5-1, behind another strong pitching performance by Hailey Johnson.  The Lady Tigers fell behind 1-0 in the second inning, but scored three runs in the top of the third and never looked back.  They added two insurance runs in the top of the sixth to put the game away.

Hailey Johnson pitched around four errors, and allowed just two hits by Neosho.  She struck out two.

The Lady Tiger offense managed just six hits, but made the most of their limited scoring chances.  Amanda Davis had a base hit, a run scored, and an RBI for Republic.

The Lady Tigers improve to 7-3 on the season.

Softball Team Takes 2nd at Nixa

The Lady Tiger softball team finished second Saturday at the Nixa Tournament, beating Walnut Grove and Parkview, before losing to Nixa.

In their first game, Republic beat Walnut Grove 6-3. Starting pitcher Hailey Johnson hit a home run and struck out nine in the victory. Payton Appleberry, Amanda Davis and Rachael Michaelis also had runs batted in for Republic.

In the second game, the Lady Tigers blew out Parkview 12-0. Pitcher Stephanie Eckhoff struck out four, and scored two runs to help her own cause. Payton Appleberry and Brooke Dutton also scored two runs apiece for the Lady Tigers.

In the championship game, Nixa slammed three home runs off Johnson to beat the Lady Tigers, 8-1. Courtney DeRonde had two homers and Danielle Billings had one. The Lady Tigers managed just three hits, as they lost for the second time this season. Johnson hit another homer in a losing cause.

The Lady Tigers are 6-2 overall. They’re back in action Tuesday night when they host Webb City at Miller Park.

Lady Tigers Wipe Out Willard

The Republic softball team fell behind early, but stormed back to demolish Willard, 18-6 Thursday.  The Lady Tigers banged out 13 hits and took advantage of six Willard errors.

Trailing 1-0, Republic responded with five runs in the third.  Willard tied the game again in the bottom half of the inning, but the Lady Tigers scored two more in the fourth and never looked back.  A four-run sixth and a seven-run seventh put the game away.

Hailey Johnson was 3-for-4 with a home run and five RBIs, and Amanda Davis was 3-for-5 with a double and three runs batted in.  Carlie Campbell and Rachael Michaelis had two hits apiece to contribute to the Lady Tiger offense.

Johnson also struck out six as the starting pitcher, earning her fourth victory of the year.  The Tigers improved to 4-1 overall.  Willard is 2-2.

Softball Rebounds to Beat Hillcrest

Hailey Johnson struck out eight and clubbed two doubles, as Republic beat Hillcrest 6-2. Johnson was 2-for-3 with four runs batted in for the Lady Tigers. Carlie Campbell added two hits of her own, and drove in a run for Republic.

The Lady Tiger offense had eight hits total, as they improved to 3-1. Hillcrest dropped to 0-3.

The Republic JV team won big over Hillcrest’s JV, 12-2.

Hailey Johnson settled down after a rocky start, and the Lady Tigers came from behind to beat Reeds Spring, 7-3.

Johnson was in trouble early, working out of a jam in the first, before allowing two runs in the second. They were the first runs she’d allowed this season, after pitching a shutout against Cassville to start the year Tuesday.

The Tigers used a big rally in the middle innings to come back. RBI hits by Johnson, Lakin Ramsey, and Stephanie Eckhoff keyed a five-run inning to give the Lady Tigers a lead they never relinquished.

“I’m just proud of the way we came back,” said coach Mike Thorne.  “Those kind of games just help you — when you get behind and come back.  You know you always have a chance to come back.
