2010 Volleyball Preview

The Lady Tigers volleyball team is coming off two straight seasons with state quarterfinal appearances. Coach Katie Kreimer wants to take this year’s team even further.  I talked to her about what’s in store for 2010.

District Preview with Katie Kreimer

Republic’s volleyball team takes a #1 seed and a #4 state ranking into its district volleyball tournament at Aurora.  I talked to Coach Katie Kreimer about the season so far, and where she thinks her team stands as the postseason begins.

Post-Match Interview: Katie Kreimer

Republic recovered from a bad stretch in the second game to beat Carthage.  Coach Katie Kreimer talked afterwards about the win, and the big lift her team received from Bri Goforth in the second game.

Post-match Interview: Katie Kreimer

Volleyball coach Katie Kreimer called her team’s performance against Webb City “pretty much perfect.” Hear why in her post-match comments.

Coach Katie Kreimer talked to me and Rodger Wheeler of the Republic Monitor about the win over Willard, her team’s confidence, and the upcoming trip to Jefferson City for the Helias Tournament.

Volleyball Tigers in News-Leader

The Republic volleyball team got a nice write-up in the Springfield News-Leader this morning.

“We’re so young,” coach Katie Kreimer said of her team, which starts three sophomores and a freshman. “There’s lots of room for improvement.”

Republic showed improvement from one set to the next in its match against Glendale and, it’s a safe bet, will do the same over the course of the season.

Republic plays Stockton at home Thursday evening.  The JV match starts at 6 p.m.

Volleyball Rebounds with Win Over Mountain Grove

The Republic volleyball team overcame a slow start to beat #5 Mountain Grove in straight sets, 25-17, 25-23.  Shelby Gordon had seven kills to lead the Lady Tigers, who improved to 2-1.

With Republic trailing 8-4 in the first game, coach Katie Kreimer called a timeout.  “We just weren’t being very aggressive.  The first two balls of the night fell between players, without effort, without any competitive aggressiveness,” she said.  The Tigers responded with a 10-2 run, and jumped out to a 14-10 lead.  From there, they never looked back, winning the first game 25-17.

Mountain Grove took an early 6-3 lead in the second game, before the Lady Tigers came back to lead 13-9.  From there, Mountain Grove rallied, and the teams stayed even the rest of the way until Republic won the last two points to clinch the victory, 25-23.

Jordan Jones contributed 17 assists for the Lady Tigers.  Elle Aston led the defense with seven digs, and Alex Botkin and Nicole Hallam had three blocks apiece for Republic.

The varsity victory made it a clean sweep for Republic.  The freshman team won 25-13, 25-15; and the JV team won 25-18, 25-15.
