Tigers Blow Out Carthage
The Tigers used a 6-run 3rd inning to blow past Carthage 11-1 in a 5-inning run-rule victory Tuesday at Barnhouse. Tyler King’s 2-run triple keyed the big Republic rally.
King also went the distance on the mound, striking out six and allowing one run in five innings.
Gus Beck was 2-for-2 with a walk to lead the Tiger hitting attack. His 2-run double in the bottom of the 5th triggered the run rule to end the game early.
Kevin Stander also had two hits and a walk for the Tigers.
Soldan Comes Back to Beat Republic, Tigers Take 4th
The Republic Tigers jumped on top early and led most of the way through three quarters, but couldn’t hold off a late charge by St. Louis Soldan, and fell in the state’s Class 4 3rd-place game, 62-55. Republic’s 4th-place state finish is the best for a Republic boys basketball team in three decades.
After shooting less than 30% from the field against Kearney Friday night, the Tigers hit 50% of their shots from the floor against Soldan. They led 20-7 after the 1st quarter, 29-23 at halftime, and 40-39 after three periods. Their halftime total of 29 points was just a basket short of their 31-point output against Kearney for the entire game Friday.
Soldan relied on physical defense to climb back into the game. They forced 25 Republic turnovers, including 10 steals. Those turnovers offset a very good job on the boards by Republic. They out-rebounded a much bigger Soldan team 33-15.
Offensively, Soldan relied on a monster game from leading scorer Brier West. West poured in 34 points, including three 3-pointers. Paul McRoberts added 12.
Kevin Stander led Republic with 18 points. Nick Yocum scored 12, Josh Morrow had 10, and Jonathan Combs had 9. Dylan Fletcher and Brody Thompson scored three apiece.
The Tigers end their season with a record of 20-10.
In the championship game, Kearney handed St. Francis Borgia its first loss in two seasons, knocking off the defending state champs 47-43 to take the title.
Tigers Go Cold, Fall to Kearney
The Kearney Bulldogs showed why they’re considered one of the best defensive teams in the state in their state semifinal matchup against Republic, stifling the Tigers in a 43-31 victory. Republic didn’t help matters, with one of its worst shooting nights of the season. [Read more...]

Kevin Stander scored nine points in the 1st quarter, and Nick Yocum added six, as the two combined for five 3-pointers in the first eight minutes. The Tiger defense forced multiple turnovers, and Republic led 38-14 at halftime. They extended the lead to 54-22 at the end of three quarters.
Stander ended the game with 17 points to lead all scorers. Dylan Fletcher added 14 and Yocum had 10. Ryan Mathis scored nine points, Josh Morrow had six, Brody Thompson had three, and Grant Hancock, Jonathan Combs and Nick Dibben had two apiece.

Tigers Whip Webb City
The Republic Tigers broke a conference losing streak and ended their regular season on a winning note at Webb City, beating the Cardinals 64-49. The Tigers got 26 points from Kevin Stander–16 in the 2nd half–to end their four-game losing streak in the Central Ozark Conference.
The Tigers fell behind by seven points in the 1st quarter, but closed the gap to trail 14-12 after one period. They outscored the Cardinals 13-9 in the 2nd quarter, and led 25-23 at halftime.
In the 3rd quarter, the Tigers outscored Webb City 19-11 to grab a 44-34 lead heading into the final period. Republic pulled away down the stretch, outscoring Webb City 20-15 in the 4th quarter, to secure the 15-point victory.
Besides Stander’s 26, the Tigers had two other players in double figures. Josh Morrow and Jonathan Combs each scored 12.
Breckin Williams scored 15 to lead Webb City.
The Tigers end their regular season with a 16-8 record. They’ll host the district tournament next week. Webb City falls to 10-14.
