Three Lady Tigers On All-Region Team

Elle_Aston_tipThree Lady Tiger volleyball players earned All-Region honors in Missouri Class 3. Senior Elle Aston and sophomore Jordan Jones were both named to the first team in the Southwest Region. Sophomore Nicole Hallam earned honorable mention.

The state is broken into five regions, from which the All-Region teams are selected. All-state selections are made from among those All-Region players.

Branson Comes from Behind to Beat Republic

volleyball_vs_bransonRepublic’s volleyball team won their first game, then dropped two in a row in a loss at Branson Tuesday, 25-19 21-25 21-25.

The Lady Tigers were coming off a week with two COC victories against Webb City and Carthage, and looked ready to continue their winning streak after a victory in the first game.  But Branson got 28 assists from setter Cailynne Hayter, and 11 kills from Bre Winn, to come from behind.  Winn also had three service aces to lead all players.

Republic was led by Nicole Hallam and Rachel Nichols with ten kills apiece.  Elle Aston and Mallory Long had 17 digs each, and Jordan Jones led the Lady Tigers with 25 assists.

In the JV match, Republic won easily, 25-15 25-13.  And the freshmen also won big, 25-11 25-13.

Volleyball Lady Tigers Cruise Past Carthage

Elle_Aston_tipThe Lady Tigers volleyball team got seven kills from Nicole Hallam and beat Carthage in two games, 25-18 26-24.  Hallam added three blocks for Republic, as they won their second COC match of the week.

Jordan Jones had 20 assists, and Mallory Long had nine digs to lead the Lady Tigers.  And Bri Goforth gave Republic a lift off the bench to help the Lady Tigers overcome a 5-point deficit in the second game.

Taylor Smith had seven kills for Carthage in a losing cause.

The JV team played an even match with Carthage for two games, before pulling away for the victory in Game Three (25-17 19-25 25-12).  Bri Goforth led Republic with eight kills.  Sadie Stevens had 16 digs in a big defensive effort, and Sarah Kreul had 21 assists.  The JV improved to 15-2-1 this season.

The freshmen lost 24-26 13-25.

Lady Tigers Dominate Webb City

Picture 1Republic’s Nicole Hallam showed Webb City what it missed the first time the two teams met, as the Lady Tigers cruised to a 25-17 25-18 victory Tuesday. The Lady Tigers had lost to Webb City in three games at the Springfield Classic Tournament — but were limited offensively, playing without Hallam. They showed big improvement in every aspect of their game in Tuesday’s win.

Hallam and Elle Aston each had six kills. And Mallory Long had a big defensive game with 16 digs for the Lady Tigers. Long also contributed two service aces.

For Webb City, Kaitlin Jaeger had five kills.

In the JV game, Republic dominated, 25-19 25-10. Brandy Glessner had 5 kills on 6 attempts with no errors (0.833 hitting %). Sarah Kreul had 15 assists, Rachelle Kipp had 6 digs, and Kelsey Forbis had 3 aces.

The freshmen also won easily, 25-11 25-13.

Volleyball Sweeps Parkview

Republic’s volleyball teams swept Parkview Tuesday, with the freshman, JV and varsity teams picking up victories.

The freshmen followed up on their win at the Joplin tournament with a victory in straight sets, 25-8, 25-19. The JV team dropped the first set, but rebounded to take a 3-set victory, 22-25, 25-19, 25-14. The victory keeps the JV squad’s undefeated record intact.

In the varsity match, 5th-ranked Republic won a close one in the first set, 26-24. They took the second set 25-20, to improve to 7-3-2 on the season.

Nicole Hallam led the Lady Tigers with 8 kills. She hit .500 for the match. Jordan Jones had 24 assists. Elle Aston and Mallory Long had 12 digs apiece to key the defensive effort.

The varsity team has a week off, and will return to action at Ozark next Tuesday. The JV team will host the Republic Tournament this weekend.

Volleyball Rebounds with Win Over Mountain Grove

The Republic volleyball team overcame a slow start to beat #5 Mountain Grove in straight sets, 25-17, 25-23.  Shelby Gordon had seven kills to lead the Lady Tigers, who improved to 2-1.

With Republic trailing 8-4 in the first game, coach Katie Kreimer called a timeout.  “We just weren’t being very aggressive.  The first two balls of the night fell between players, without effort, without any competitive aggressiveness,” she said.  The Tigers responded with a 10-2 run, and jumped out to a 14-10 lead.  From there, they never looked back, winning the first game 25-17.

Mountain Grove took an early 6-3 lead in the second game, before the Lady Tigers came back to lead 13-9.  From there, Mountain Grove rallied, and the teams stayed even the rest of the way until Republic won the last two points to clinch the victory, 25-23.

Jordan Jones contributed 17 assists for the Lady Tigers.  Elle Aston led the defense with seven digs, and Alex Botkin and Nicole Hallam had three blocks apiece for Republic.

The varsity victory made it a clean sweep for Republic.  The freshman team won 25-13, 25-15; and the JV team won 25-18, 25-15.

Volleyball Wins Opener Against Bentonville

The Republic volleyball team started its season with a win over Bentonville, Ark., in two sets (25-17, 26-24). The Lady Tigers trailed 19-23 in the second set before storming back with four straight points to tie it, and eventually seal the victory.

Sophomore setter Jordan Jones had 13 assists to lead Republic, and also contributed 12 digs. Elle Aston added 14 digs to lead the defense. And Rachel Nichols had six kills for the Lady Tigers. Nicole Hallam led the team with three aces and three blocks.

Republic’s JV won in three sets (24-26, 25-22, 25-21). The freshman team lost in three sets to Bentonville’s sophomore team (25-20, 23-25, 25-17).

Republic is back in action next Tuesday at Glendale.
