Lady Tigers Come Back to Beat Neosho

The Republic Lady Tigers overcame a poor shooting night to come from behind and beat Neosho Monday, 70-58. Alexis Edwards and Payton Rayl each scored 16 points to lead Republic. Alice Heinzler scored 10, and Sarah Kruel returned from an injury to chip in 9 points for the Lady Tigers.

Republic fell behind at halftime 30-26. But the Lady Tigers outscored Neosho 25-11 in the 3rd quarter to pull away.

Ashley Gillion had 18 points to lead Neosho.

The JV Lady Tigers won 77-24.

Lady Tigers Beat Zizzers to Take 3rd

The Republic Lady Tigers scored seven straight points when it counted most, and beat West Plains 54-49 to win 3rd place in the Pink & White Tournament. The Lady Tigers trailed 46-44 with less than four minutes left in the game when they went on their mini-run to grab the victory. Sarah Kruel had a key offensive rebound and putback during that stretch. She finished with a team-high 16 points for Republic.

Alexis Edwards and Kyra Ramsey scored 9 points apiece. Brooke Dutton added 7, Payton Rayl 6, Alex Botkin 4, and Alice Heinzler 3.

Republic used a balanced attack to jump out to a 12-point lead in the 1st quarter. They led 33-26 at halftime, with six players contributing to the scoring.

West Plains outscored Republic 13-4 during the opening minutes of the 3rd quarter to take their first lead, 39-37, with 2 1/2 minutes left in the period.

The game stayed close, with the teams trading buckets until the deciding run by Republic midway through the final period.

Lady Tigers Fall Short at Kickapoo

The Republic Lady Tigers fell just short in a nail-biter at Kickapoo Monday night. Kickapoo hit key free throws down the stretch to take a 68-64 win.

The two teams were tied 36-36 at halftime, after Payton Rayl hit a shot from beyond half court as time expired in the 2nd quarter.

The lead changed times several times in the 2nd half, before Kickapoo took a small lead late in the game, and secured the victory at the free throw line.

The JV Lady Tigers beat Kickapoo 54-26. The Republic freshmen won 52-50.

Girls Golf Qualifies 3 for State

Three members of the Republic Lady Tigers golf team have qualified for the state tournament later this month. The team finished 3rd overall at the sectional tournament this week, behind champion Lee’s Summit West and runner-up Kickapoo.

Senior Payton Rayl shot a 79 — good enough for 5th place at sectionals. Sophomore Allison Quigley finished 15th, with an 88. And freshman Baylee Rayl finished 17th, with a score of 89. All three will compete at the Class 2 state tournament at Twin Oaks Country Club in Springfield. The tournament is scheduled for October 18th and 19th.

2nd Place Finish for Golfers

The Republic Lady Tigers golf team fell a little short of their third straight tournament title Wednesday at Fremont Hills. Republic finished second, four strokes behind Kickapoo, with a 383.

Payton Rayl was the top individual, shooting an 84. Baylee Rayl shot a 98 to place tenth, and Alexis Edwards shot 99 to finish 11th. Allison Quigley turned in a 102, playing for the first time since an illness kept her out of yesterday’s tournament in Bolivar.

Republic is back in action next Monday at Marshfield.

District Champs!

DistrictChampsThe Republic Lady Tigers used a balanced offensive attack to capture a district title with a 60-50 win over top-seeded McDonald County Friday.

The game started bizarrely, with McDonald County scoring a basket at Republic’s end of the floor on its opening possession. The opening tip went out of bounds and officials awarded the ball to the Lady Mustangs. McDonald County in-bounded the ball to an unguarded Ryan Parsons, wide open under the basket. But Parsons was under Republic’s basket, and scored for the Lady Tigers.

McDonald County rebounded to take a lead at the end of the 1st quarter, 12-11. Republic jumped on top in the 2nd quarter, outscoring the Lady Mustangs 17-12, and taking a 28-24 lead at halftime. At the end of the 3rd quarter, Republic led 40-36. They outscored McDonald County 20-14 down the stretch to capture the title.

Senior Courtney Gardner scored 13 points to lead the Lady Tigers. Kyra Ramsey scored 11; and Payton Rayl and Elle Aston had 9 points apiece. Sarah Kreul scored 6, Alex Botkin had 5, Kyla Fieth added 4, and Kayce Duvall scored 3 for Republic.

Ryan Parsons had 24 points for the Lady Mustangs, who end their season with a 13-13 record.

Republic advances to the sectional round next Wednesday at Joplin. Their opponent won’t be determined until Saturday.

Senior Night Victory

IMG_1663Senior Kayce Duvall scored 26 points on Senior Night, as the Lady Tigers cruised to a 64-31 victory over Neosho. It’s the 3rd win in a row for Republic, after struggling for much of January.

Republic used strong defense to force multiple turnovers for Neosho, as they jumped out to a big lead early. The Lady Tigers led 17-4 after one quarter, and 35-10 at halftime.

Nine Lady Tigers scored, led by Duvall’s 26 points. Payton Rayl and Courtney Gardner scored 8; Kyra Ramsey scored 6; Alex Botkin and Sarah Kreul had 4 apiece; Brooke Dutton and Kyla Fieth each added 3; and Elle Aston had 2.

Before the game, Republic honored its four seniors: Duvall, Aston, Gardner, and Jayme Sifferman.

Lady Tigers Drop Thriller at Marshfield in OT

Varsity_vs_Marshfield0002aThe Republic Lady Tigers clawed their way back from a 10-point deficit to force overtime at Marshfield Monday, before falling in overtime 58-57. Republic trailed 33-23 late in the 3rd quarter. They used a frenzied full-court press to get back in the game, and took the lead with :38 left on a layup by Elle Aston, 48-47. But Marshfield hit a free throw with :15 remaining in regulation to tie the game, and Sarah Kreul missed a jumper at the buzzer that would have won it.

In overtime, Marshfield jumped ahead 53-50 before Courtney Gardner tied it with a 3-pointer. After a Marshfield free throw, Gardner hit another 3-pointer to make the lead 56-54. But from that point, Republic missed five of six free throws, including two by Payton Rayl with :06 remaining. The Lady Tigers rebounded the second miss, but a three-point attempt by Gardner rattled in and out, and Sarah Kreul’s hurried follow-up shot failed to fall, giving Marshfield a 58-57 win.

Gardner led Republic in scoring with 19 points. Jayme Sifferman had 10. Sarah Kreul provided a key spark off the bench to get the Lady Tigers back in the game in the 2nd half, and she finished with 8. Elle Aston added seven points to go along with some important defensive plays during the Lady Tigers’ run. Kyra Ramsey had 6 points, Kayce Duvall had 5, and Payton Rayl had 2.

Jessie Bruton had 15 points to lead the Lady Jays. Amanda Gourley had 13.
