Friend Takes 6th in State High Jump

Lady Tigers Compete at State Track Meet

Two Lady Tigers will be competing in the state track meet this week in Jefferson City.

Sharla Friend cleared 5’2″ in the high jump at the sectional meet in Marshfield last week to take first place. She and three others from the sectional will move on to Jefferson City. Her jump of 5’2″ puts her in a tie for fourth among all the high-jumpers who qualified for state. Morgan Whitson of Moberly cleared 5’8″ in her sectional meet, edging out Camille Hackamack of Hannibal, at 5’7″.

In the 300-meter hurdles, Alex Botkin finished third at sectionals, with a time of 48.87. Korie Johnson of Carl Junction and Taylor Conley of Osage finished ahead of her.

Botkin will compete in her preliminary race Friday afternoon in Jefferson City. Friend will compete in the high jump on Saturday.

Tigers Qualify for Track & Field Sectionals

The Republic girls track team had a good day at Districts in Carl Junction Saturday. The Lady Tigers finished 3rd overall, behind the host Bulldogs and Nevada. Several individuals qualified for sectionals.

    Sharla Friend finished 2nd in the high jump, with a jump of 5’2″ in the finals.

    Miranda Cunningham pole vaulted 9’6″ to win her event.

    Alex Botkin finished 4th in the 100 meter hurdles, with a time of 17.28. She barely edged fellow Lady Tiger Kavosha Edmunds, who finished 5th, in 17.37.

    Botkin also took 1st place in the 300 meter hurdles, finishing in 48.15.

    Hannah Willis was 4th in the 1600 meter run, with a time of 5:42.87. Her sister, Haley Willis, finished just over five seconds behind, in 5th place.

The boys qualified one participant for sectionals.  Sean Cook took 4th in the 400 meter dash, with a time of 52.43.
