New Lady Tigers volleyball coach Piper Wright is already starting to feel comfortable in her new surroundings.

Wright came to Republic a few weeks ago from Parkview, where she was head coach for two seasons. I caught up to her in Nixa, where she was coaching the freshman team in a tournament, to ask her about making the switch to a new program, and what she has planned for Republic volleyball.

Willard Ends Republic’s Volleyball Season

After trips to the state quarterfinals in its last two seasons, Republic ended its volleyball season early this year. Willard knocked off Republic in the first round of the district tournament at Carthage, 26-24 16-25 25-23. Republic had beaten Willard earlier this season.

Nicole Hallam led the team with 11 kills, and Alex Botkin had 10. Botkin also had 22 digs, to go along with Mallory Long’s 19.

Jordan Jones added 19 assists, and Sarah Kreul had 16.

Republic ends its season at 18-14-1.

Volleyball Team Picks Up Big Road Win

Republic’s volleyball team went on the road and handed Carthage its fourth loss of the season Thursday, 25-23 15-25 25-20.

Nicole Hallam had 15 kills to lead the Lady Tigers. Jordan Jones chipped in with 22 assists. The victory improves Republic’s overall record to 14-11.

Republic’s JV team won a nailbiter in three sets, 22-25 27-25 25-23.

The freshmen won in straight sets, 25-17 25-8.

Volleyball Team Wins in Straight Sets

The Lady Tigers volleyball team cruised to a win at Neosho Tuesday night, 25-21 25-17. Jordan Jones had 25 assists and nine digs to lead Republic in both categories. Bri Goforth had eight kills to power the offense.

The victory evens Republic’s record at 7-7 this season. They’re 1-0 in Central Ozark Conference play with the victory.

The JV team also won in straight sets, 25-10 25-18.

JV Volleyball Is Double Trouble

Coach Ryan Lacson split his JV volleyball team into two squads for the Republic Tournament Saturday — and both of them were among the best teams in the field.

In the end, the Republic JV Black squad won the tournament with a straight-set victory over Lebanon in the finals, 25-15 25-18. The Republic Orange squad lost to the Black squad in three sets in the semifinals, and ended up settling for third place overall.

Including the results from Saturday, the Republic JV program has an 18-3 record overall this season.

Volleyball Team Escapes Stockton’s Upset Bid

The Republic Lady Tigers volleyball team narrowly escaped with a win at Stockton Thursday night. Republic jumped to an early lead in the first game, but Stockton came back, and took its first lead at 19-18. The teams went back and forth the rest of the way, with Stockton taking game one, 25-23.

The second game was a mirror image of the first, with Stockton holding an early lead, until Republic got hot. From 10-12 down, Republic nine of the next 11 points to take a 19-14 lead. They went on to take the game 25-20.

Republic seemed to be in control in game three, but could never put Stockton away. Republic built a six-point lead at 17-11. But Stockton clawed back to within one point, at 20-19. Republic stretched the lead again, to 24-20, and Stockton made it 24-23 before Republic scored the deciding point.

Nicole Hallam and Alex Botkin each had 12 kills to lead the Lady Tigers. Jordan Jones had 20 assists, and Sarah Kreul added 17. Botkin had 15 digs and Mallory Long had 10.

Republic improves to 4-3. Stockton suffers its first loss, and falls to 4-1.

Republic’s JV team had an easier time, cruising to victory, 25-7 25-9.

Volleyball Team Gets First Win

The Republic Lady Tigers volleyball team picked up its first win of the season, beating Carl Junction 25-19 25-22. It was the first game in the new high school for the volleyball team, which finished its season last year before the new school opened.

After winning the first game handily, Republic fell behind in the second game, 6-1, before storming back. They took an 11-10 lead, and never relinquished the lead the rest of the way.

The match was interrupted just before the start of the second game because of a tornado warning. But play resumed quickly, after about a 15-minute delay.

Nicole Hallam led the offense with eight kills for Republic. Alex Botkin had four aces. Jordan Jones added 12 assists. Three players — Jones, Botkin, and Mallory Long — shared the team lead with five digs defensively.

Both teams are now 1-1. Republic’s JV squad won 25-17 25-18, and the freshmen won 25-19 25-18.
