Tigers Take 5th at Zumwalt East

The Republic Tigers wrestling team placed fifth out of 18 schools at the Fort Zumwalt East Invitational in St. Louis this weekend.

Eureka dominated the tournament with 299 points, 80 more than runner-up McCluer North. Fort Zumwalt North (217) and Fort Zumwalt South (188) finished third and fourth. Republic finished with 181 overall points. Ritenour finished sixth.

Wrestlers 5th of 18 as Day Begins

Republic’s wrestling team was tied for fifth place out of 18 schools at the Fort Zumwalt East Invitational in St. Louis, as today’s competition began. Republic had 50 points last night.

Kyle Campbell and Jake Laswell went undefeated last night to start the tournament.

Wrestling Team Splits with Willard/Central

IMG 7261Republic’s wrestling team split its three-team meet at home Thursday. The Tigers defeated Central 57-21, but lost to Willard 52-15.

Against Central, individual winners were Bryce Osburn, Travis Thomas, Cody Sandridge, Dustin Eby, Kerik Crouse, Jacob Dickens, Jake Laswell, Zach Jester, Hayden Puckett, and Lance Gregory.

Individual winners against Willard were Dustin Eby, Kerik Crouse, Lance Gregory.

Two JV Tigers Take Top Spot at Rolla

Two Republic JV wrestlers won their weight class, and three finished as runners up at the Rolla JV Tournament.

Kyle Powell and Paden Lucero both came out on top in their class. James Walter, Dallas Ross, and Zach Jester all finished second. George Wright took third.

The tournament did not include team scores.

Middle School Wrestlers Take 5th at COC

Republic Middle School wrestlers earned 5th place at the Central Ozark Conference Tournament this weekend. They had finished 6th in 2010.

Republic finished ahead of Branson, Webb City, and Willard. The team won six medals, despite being unable to fill six weight classes.

“I am very proud of the way our wrestlers performed,” Coach David Hopper says. “Our wrestlers have demonstrated a great deal of discipline, leadership, and most importantly teamwork throughout the season. It paid off on Saturday.”

Medalists include Spencer Conklin (Champion 160 pounds), Brandon O’Connell (2nd 110), John Ionashku (3rd 105), Brendan Bice (3rd 120), Zach Dickens (3rd 150), and Blake Wojciechowski (3rd 195).

Fourth place finishers include Jerney Jones (115), MacRae Murry (175), and Shane McKinley (215).

Other points earners were Sierra Clemmons, Nicholas McClarnon, Garrett Taylor, Elizabeth Taylor, Eli Davidson, Corey Mays, Johnathon Beckett, Austin Noblitt, Creighton Thomas, Mavrick Lopez, Dakota Dutoit, Liam Bice, Parker Davis, Gage Gold, Jaden Bowers, Jack Hayes, Garrett Pressnall, Nolan Davis, Jacob Daniel, and Owen Clark.

The RMS Tiger wrestlers will host their final match of the season against Logan-Rogersville on Thursday, December 15. The match will be held at Republic High School at 5 p.m., before the high school meet against Central and Willard.

Republic Wrestlers Dominate Buffalo

Republic wrestlers rolled over Buffalo in a dual meet, 60-6. The Tigers lost only three of 13 matches overall, and two of those were JV matches.

Kyle Campbell, Schyler Chott, Dustin Eby, Kerik Crouse, Jake Laswell, and Hayden Puckett all won by pin.

Wrestling Team Takes 4th at Bolivar

Republic’s wrestling team took 4th place at the Bolivar Varsity Invitational Saturday. The Tigers finished behind champion Carthage, runner-up Bolivar, and Reeds Spring.

Coach Jerry Morton says the team “had a pretty good day. We were open at two weight classes but still improved our team placing from last year.”

Republic’s Travis Thomas finished first in the 126-pound weight class. Jake Laswell was the 195-pound winner. Dustin Eby was runner-up at 152.

The Middle School wrestling team picked up its first win of the season Tuesday in a dual meet with Willard. Republic won 63-45, despite forfeiting four matches in the lower weight classes.
