Softball Team Takes 2nd at Nixa

The Lady Tiger softball team finished second Saturday at the Nixa Tournament, beating Walnut Grove and Parkview, before losing to Nixa.

In their first game, Republic beat Walnut Grove 6-3. Starting pitcher Hailey Johnson hit a home run and struck out nine in the victory. Payton Appleberry, Amanda Davis and Rachael Michaelis also had runs batted in for Republic.

In the second game, the Lady Tigers blew out Parkview 12-0. Pitcher Stephanie Eckhoff struck out four, and scored two runs to help her own cause. Payton Appleberry and Brooke Dutton also scored two runs apiece for the Lady Tigers.

In the championship game, Nixa slammed three home runs off Johnson to beat the Lady Tigers, 8-1. Courtney DeRonde had two homers and Danielle Billings had one. The Lady Tigers managed just three hits, as they lost for the second time this season. Johnson hit another homer in a losing cause.

The Lady Tigers are 6-2 overall. They’re back in action Tuesday night when they host Webb City at Miller Park.
