Lady Tigers Make History Despite Loss

Getting their first game out of the way did wonders for the Republic Lady Tigers soccer team. After losing 9-0 to Rolla on Tuesday, Republic played its first-ever home game Thursday, losing 2-1 to Waynesville.

The Lady Tigers took a 1-0 lead at the 19:00 mark of the 1st half, when Sara Marcotte scored the program’s first-ever goal on a penalty kick, after being taken down on her way to the goal. That gave Republic its first-ever lead, and the Lady Tigers held it for more than 20 minutes.

Waynesville tied the game at the 8:00 mark on a penalty kick of its own. Waynesville took the lead three minutes later, and held on from there.

Goalkeeper Amanda Snider made several big saves, including a 1st-half save on a Waynesville penalty kick that kept Republic’s lead 1-0 lead intact.

“I’m so proud of the way these girls came out tonight and just fought,” said coach Mike Hines. “To play an established program that’s 4-0, we gave them everything they wanted…and just to take the steps that we did tonight was just amazing. And I can’t say enough tonight about their heart and their effort.”
