Hergesheimer Double-Qualifies for AAU Junior Olympics

012Republic incoming freshman Megan Hergesheimer has qualified for the AAU Junior Olympics in two track events. Hergesheimer finished first in both the 1500- and 3000-meter runs at the regional meet in Joplin over the weekend.

In the 3000-meter run, Hergesheimer finished in 11:21. That beat her previous personal best by 10 seconds, and put her six seconds ahead of the closest competitor. She ran the 1500-meter in 5:09, beating the second-place finisher by six seconds in that race, too.

Hergesheimer will compete in another regional qualifier — this one for USA Track and Field — in Lawrence, Kansas, next weekend. She’ll be attempting to qualify for that organization’s junior olympics in Baltimore later this year.

Hergesheimer holds the girls 7th and 8th grade records at Republic for the mile run, and also the 8th grade 800-meter record. She also holds the Central Ozark Conference record for the 8th grade girls mile run.
