Updated to include results in Olympic-style sparring
Republic’s Rylee Smith has won three taekwondo medals, including a gold, at the AAU Junior Olympics in Houston. Smith took the gold medal in point sparring last weekend, and also finished third in the taekwondo forms competition. She lost her match against the only other competitor in her age division in Olympic-style sparring, still finishing 2nd nationally.
Smith competes in the 14- and 15-year-old black belt division. She’ll be a freshman at Republic High School this year.
Smith trains at Next Level Sport Karate in Springfield.
