Early Lead Won’t Hold Up for Republic

SoftballRepublic jumped ahead of Ozark 4-0 after two innings, but that’s when the Ozark offense exploded. Ozark two runs in the 3rd inning, and four more in the 4th to take the lead. By the time it was over, Ozark had pounded out 19 hits on the way to a 17-5 victory.

Hayley Chambers hit two homers to lead Ozark. Republic also made four errors. Only five of Ozark’s 17 runs were earned.

Republic had broken on top with a four-run outburst in the bottom of the 2nd. Morgan Cantrell scored on a single by Lauren Strobel, and Caty Eby crossed the plate on a fielder’s choice. Abby Norris doubled home Strobel, and Stephanie Eckhoff scored on a sacrifice fly by Danielle Shelton.

Republic falls to 4-2 on the season.
